In our opinion here at eAgent Realty, a Smart Home is one that is built with cutting edge building materials using cutting edge building systems with a minimal impact on the environment as possible. It also has to have smart home features that make living more convenient and less expensive to maintain over time. Let's Start with Understanding Construction Materials
Today there are many different options in how your home can be built. The "frame" of your home will typically be built by one of these three construction types... traditional wood frame (a.k.a. stick construction), concrete, or steel. The "skin" of your new home will typically be one or more of these seven materials... brick, stucco, wood, concrete, stone, vinyl and/or aluminum. And your "roof" will be made out of one of these materials... traditional asphalt shingles, wood shingles, ceramic, metal, or concrete.
Since the days of the caveman, wood construction has been the "go to" since wood has been the cheapest readily available resource. Over time, innovation has given us the other two...concrete and steel. The Greeks and Romans perfected (or so they thought) the concrete structure, but as man is hard-wired to constantly innovate, we gave rise to modern day construction with new building systems using concrete and steel.
